Thought For The Day

My great ambition is to die of exhaustion rather than boredom.
- Angus Grosshart -

Selection Sunday

Tomorrow is Selection Sunday, the day the NCAA basketball tournament pairings are announced. Clearly, one of the biggest, and most anticipated days of the year. It's right up there with Red Sox opening day, The Red Sox home opener, the NBA Draft and, of course, the NFL Draft. Personally, I think they should be national holidays. Choosing the field of 65 teams is only the beginning - then the fun begins. Print the brackets, analyze the brackets, pick the teams, exchange your choices with the other bracketology fans - and let the trash talking begin. This year there is an added bonus to Selection Sunday. At noon on ESPN2, the Movin' Mavs of the University of Texas at Arlington are playing for the Southland Conference Championship and an automatic bid to the Big Dance. I might not be able to sleep tonight.

Thoughts For The Day

A pessimist is one who makes difficulties of his opportunities, and an optimist is one who makes opportunities of his difficulties.
- Harry Truman -

A pessimist sees only the dark side of the clouds, and mopes; a philosopher sees both sides, and shrugs; an optimist doesn't see the clouds at all - he's walking on them.
- Leonard Levinson -

Attitude

"Your attitude determines your altitude", "attitude is everything", etc., etc. I know, you've heard all that #!@/# stuff before and you're tired of it. But wait! Now there's medical proof that your attitude can directly affect your health. Studies have shown that people with good, optimistic attitudes are less likely to have heart problems, strokes, and high blood pressure, because they feel less daily stress in their lives. However, pessimistic people are fifty percent more likely to have heart problems, and thirty percent more likely to have high blood pressure. Don't worry, be happy.

Quotes For The Day

As long as you're going to think anyway, think big.
- Donald Trump -

Without ambition one starts nothing. Without work one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you. You have to win it.

Quote For The Day

Call me a troglodyte; I would rather peruse those photos from my easy chair, catch the newspaper on the way to work, and page through a real book.

Quote For The Day

Let us hope that we are all preceded in this world by a love story.
- Don Snyder -

The Rainy Day

Written at his old home in Portland.

The day is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
The vine still clings to the mouldering wall,
But at every gust the dead leaves fall,
And the day is dark and dreary.

My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;
It rains, and the wind is never weary;
My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past,
But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,
And the days are dark and dreary.

Be still, sad heart, and cease repining;
Behind the clouds is the sun still shining;
Thy fate is the common fate of all,
Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary.

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow -

Quote For The Day

Success is as easy as ABC - Ability, Breaks, Courage.
- Charles Luckman -

Monday, Monday, can't trust that day

Madonna in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I don't think so: not while Deep Purple, J. Geils, Alice Cooper, and Steve Miller are still waiting. To add to the insult, she's going to be introduced by Justin Timberlake - what??????????????

Breaking news: Governor Eliot Spitzer of New York is "involved" in a prostitution ring. It isn't clear yet wether he was a customer or an employee. Yikes!

My man Bartolo will be on the hill for the Sox later this week. If Senior Colon is anything near his prime, he will eat up some innings - sort of like Clemens minus the 'roids.

The athlete with highest name recognition among young consumers is Tony Hawk, the skateboarder. He has a 14' half-pipe in his own office building at Tony Hawk, Inc.

Quote For The Day

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost, that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them.
