Thought For The Day

Every hero becomes a bore at last.

Final Two

It's a late night blog entry tonight. We're down to the final two teams, Kansas and Memphis. Only Megan and Julie have a chance to pick this year's winner. They both picked Kansas to win the tournament. Obviously, they're both basketball geniuses. The only chance I had to win the Cape Cod Times contest was for UCLA to beat Kansas in the championship game. Oh well, wait 'till next year.

Work and acquire, and thou hast chained the wheel of chance.

How To Save Money On Gas

There is one sure way to use less gas and save money - slow down. In a typical sedan, every 10 miles per hour you drive over 60 is like adding 54 cents a gallon to your costs. Every 10 miles per hour over 60 reduces fuel economy by 4 miles per gallon.

Lets do the math. If a car gets 28 mpg at 65, driving at 75 reduces it to 24 mpg. Fuel costs over 100 miles, for example - estimated at $3.25 a gallon - would increase by $1.93, or the cost of an additional .06 gallons of gas. That would be like paying 54 cents a gallon more for each of the 3.6 gallons used at 65 mph. That per-gallon price difference remains constant over any distance.

Engineers at Consumer Reports magazine tested and proved this theory many times in different sizes and types of vehicles. So, all you need to do to save money is slow down.

Thought For The Day

None of us will ever accomplish anything excellent or commanding except when he listens to this whisper which is heard by him alone.

Cool Website Of The Week

This week's cool website is www.realsimple.com, "life made easier". It's full of tips on food, home & organizing, beauty & style - all the stuff I know absolutely nothing about. It also has some very good worksheets & checklists which I like because I'm a real "list" person. On Sunday I start making my list of things to do for the week, but I always seem to carry things over to the next week. I hope this website helps a little.

Poem For The Day

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Thought For The Day

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.

Thought For The Day

Never bear more than one trouble at a time. Some people bear three kinds - all they have had, all they have now, and all they expect to have.

Final Four

Another year of predictions is down to the Final Four. Interestingly, all of us still have our championship pick still alive. However, Mike is the only one who predicted the entire final four. Quite a rare accomplishment these days with all of those George Mason types out there. It almost happened again this year with Davidson. Each year, the "experts" like Bobby Knight preach that the tournament should include only the "best 65", which, in his mind, such as it is, wouldn't include Davidson, Siena, and Belmont. What a shame that would be. So it's on to the Final Four. Good luck to everyone!
