Thought For The Day

Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have, and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you.

A woman is like a tea bag - you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.

Investing

For anyone who is interesting in investing in the stock market, but doesn't have the money to open an account with a stock broker, a good alternative might be www.sharebuilder.com. It's part of ING Direct, and it requires no minimum investment. Some of the larger stock brokerages require as much as a $2500 minimum to open an account. The transaction fee is very small, as little as $4, if you invest automatically. You can start with a small amount, say $25 per month, and increase that amount as you get more comfortable with it or as your salary increases. It's a good way to get started in investing in stocks. It's very important that you educate yourself about investing by taking a course or buying one of the thousands of books on the subject. Learn how to read the stock pages in the paper, and understand investment terminology. Get started when you're young, you'll be glad you did.

Thought For The Day

This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as when the baby gets hold of a hammer.

Poem For The Day

Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He, who can call today his own:
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today.

Thoughts For The Day

No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
- Eleanor Roosevelt -

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.
- Theodore Roosevelt -

Thought For The Day

Some people mistake the high cost of living with the
cost of living high.

Success by Robert William Service

You ask me what I call Success,
It is , I wonder, Happiness?
*
It is not wealth, it is not fame,
Nor rank, nor power, nor honored name.
It is not triumph in the arts,
Best selling books or leading parts.
It is not plaudits of the crowd,
The flame of flags, processions proud.
The panegyrics of the press,
Are but the mirage of success.
You may have all of them, my friend,
Yet be a failure in the end.
*
I've known proud Presidents of banks
Who've fought their way up from the ranks.
And party leaders of renown
Who played as boys in Shantytown.
Strong, self-made men, yet seek to trace
Benignity in any face;
Grim purpose, mastery maybe,
Yet never sweet serenity;
Never contentment, thoughts that bless,
That mellow joy I deem Success.
*
The haply seek some humble hearth,
Quite poor in goods yet rich in mirth,
And see a man of common clay
Watching his little ones at play;
A laughing fellow full of cheer,
Health, strength and faith that mocks at fear;
Who for his happiness relies
On joys he lights in other eyes;
He loves his home and envies none....
Who happier beneath the sun?
*
Aye, though he walk in lowly ways,
Shining Success has crowned his days.

Thought For The Day

Many a false step is made by standing still.

Random Stuff

Yesterday's primaries and cuacuses were very interesting. The Republicans seem to be re-thinking John McCain, and giving more thought to Huckabee, although it might be too little, too late. And Obama is gaining even more momentum. We can't count Hillary out until the remaining big states, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas have their say.
*
Did you know that Whitney Houston and Brittany Spears are playing basketball for the University of Colorado? Check it out.
*
The Red Sox equipment bus left for Fort Myers yesterday. That can only be a good thing. Now we can try to forget the Patriots and focus our attention on the Sox.
*
Only 22 months ago LSU was in the basketball Final Four. Yesterday the coach, John Brady, was fired. Did he go from being a great coach to a bad coach in less than 2 years?
